Mark Scott awarded the Elsevier - Institut Cochin Innovation Award 2019

    •

For the third edition of the Elsevier-Institut Cochin Innovation Award, the Paris Descartes Foundation, the Institut Cochin and Elsevier rewarded Mark Scott for his work on the development of chemical modulators of the tumor suppressor PTEN.

Mark Scott and his team study new ways of treating cancer by focusing on the role of a cellular communication pathway driven by two oncogenic proteins called PI3K / AKT, often over-activated in cancer. The tumor suppressor PTEN acts as a natural brake on this PI3K / AKT pathway. Using small molecules to activate tumor suppressors like PTEN, has not been much explored as a potential anti-cancer approach. The project of Dr. Scott’s research team is therefore to investigate this possibility, which may in the longer term offer future therapeutic opportunities.

The Elsevier-Institut Cochin Innovation Award is part of the Cochin Institute's "Proof-of-Concept" program, which annually supports researchers whose work has a strong potential of applications. Since 2017, the Paris Descartes Foundation and Elsevier have collaborated to promote scientific achievements and innovation in research and teaching in France.
