On April 15th 2020, the ANR launched the call RA-Covid-19 (Research-Action Covid-19) to support projects with possible implementation in the society within the next 3 to 12 months. The MELATOVID project, coordinated by Ralf Jockers (Institut Cochin, Département Endocrinologie, Métabolisme, Diabète) et Morgane Bomsel (Institut Cochin, Département Infection, Immunité, Inflammation) was one of the 10 projects selected from the fourth assessment wave of 38 proposals on July 10th 2020.

The MELATOVID project aims to assess the potential of melatonin and its derivatives in order to provide a rapid, preventive or therapeutic solution against Covid-19 infection. The project will evaluate the effect of melatoninergic drugs and their associated mechanisms of action on cell models infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and in vivo.
