    Résumé

I will present recent results we have obtained  on the role of tissue mechanics in two self-organized systems : gastrulation in avians and digit formation in mouse. In both cases we characterize the underlying  tissue mechanics and describe how mechanical forces feedback on gene expression to promote the self-organization of cell fate. Our findings demonstrate a central role for mechanical forces not only  in the shaping but also in the patterning of embryonic tissues.
