ERC Consolidator grants are part of the fundings from the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, they help excellent scientists, who have 7 to 12 years’ experience after their PhDs, to pursue their most promising ideas. The selection is highly competitive, Julie Helft is one of the 321 researchers selected for funding, among 2,222 applicants in 2022.

Project: FOLOME

Role of tissue-resident FOLR2+ macrophages as organizers of the tumor immune microenvironment

Tumor infiltrating macrophages play various pro-tumorigenic functions. However, it is now well established that various macrophage subsets with distinct functional properties co-exist within tumors. The goal of the FOLOME project is to explore the role of a mammary gland-resident macrophage subset located near blood vessels and interacting with anti-tumor cytotoxic T cells. Understanding the precise role played by this macrophage population could pave the way for the development of new immunotherapies to treat cancer.
