Arun Prakash is Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, US in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care.  He will stay from September 2022 to August 2023 to work with Molly Ingersoll's team on understanding the immune response in the lung.
His primary research focus is on the interface between sterile and infectious inflammation and how the innate immune system distinguishes between the two to respond appropriately.  Given his clinical interest in trauma anesthesia, and specifically the airway, his research focuses on lung injury in trauma and the pathophysiology of lung ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury. Prof. Arun Prakash is interested in how damage markers are generated in IR injury, how these are sensed, how infiltrating immune inflammatory cells are targeted to the lung, and how the gut microbiome contributes to a lung immune "tone" that can determine the response to injury or infection.  Dissecting the individual aspects of these processes will likely provide important insights towards improving the way trauma and other patients with lung injury are cared for.

Discussion with Arun Prakash is welcome and encouraged.
